History.
Friend and hunting companion of post
photographer L.A. Huffman, this
Cheyenne Scout was photographed at
Fort Keogh, Montana Territory in
1879. One of Huffman's finest
portraits it captures the beauty,
dignity and sense of self-worth that
is so often found in his
photographic portraits of the Plains
Indians. Red Sleeve was killed by
lightning not long after this
picture was taken while on patrol
with the newly formed Indian Police.
