Float-rope Mats aka Downeast Doormats

We hand-pick every lobster rope mat that we sell! Float-rope was used by lobstermen to tether multiple traps together. The problem with float-rope was that it entangled whales, which led to their injury or death. So the rope was banned and hauled out of the ocean and a cottage industry sprang up recycling the rope into colorful, virtually indestructible hand-woven mats. Now the supply of old rope has been exhausted, but the mats have become so popular that new rope is being manufactured just for use in mat making.
