About the author and his book.
Robert Cook is a
wonderful storyteller
who happened to purchase
a camp on an island at
Parmachenee Lake in
Maine that was also the
location of Camp Caribou
which was established by
Danforth in the 1870's.
Bob spent five years
researching Danforth's
amazing life, gathering
an exceptionally rich
collection of
illustrations and
photographs along the
way. Each page of this
book was composed with
the fine hewn care of a
craftsman and every
image is there for a
reason. |

This extraordinary
book is no longer being published. Chasing Danforth is now only
available from SnowSource and one or
two out of the way bookshops.
It's destined to become a
collector's item.
Who was Danforth? John S.
Danforth (1847-1913) was one of
Maine's most famous guides and
outdoorsmen. This book chronicles
his travels from the Maine woods to
the Florida Everglades (in his
125 foot stern wheel paddle boat) to
the gold mining canyons of Idaho.
